What a fun idea! In my family, there were two times a year you were guaranteed to know what you were getting. Christmas and Easter.
At Christmas, we'd always get a new set of winter pajamas from my Great Grandmother. When Easter came along, it was a new spring/summer set of PJ's. I have to say, those were some of the best gifts I'd get every year! Nothing fancy, but they were ones that she'd pick out, so they were always quite sensible. I didn't realize how much I enjoyed those gifts until she suffered a stroke in 1991. My Grandmother took up the task of supplying us with PJ's, but it wasn't quite the same. She would let us choose the PJ's we'd receive. Once she passed, in 1997, PJ's at Christmas and Easter were no more. By that time, I was old enough to be buying my own PJ's and my brothers didn't really care that much (as far as I know). Now, when Christmas rolls around, if I want new PJ's, I have to buy them for myself. Doesn't feel nearly as special! Angie

Dear Suzanne,
I love reading with you! Your weekday columns bring a perosnal note of optimism, friendship and good books. Thank you.
Pajamas are simply fun! They are the greatest invention to ward off winter chill and comfort while allowing one to embrace the inner child. I believe there are several stages of pajamas in life ranging from adorable and practical for babies and toddlers; colorful, fun children's attire adorned with favorite characters and action figures; t-shirt combos and the wide range of teen tastes; followed by Victoria's Secret inspired "come hither" looks and a return to colorful, comfortable and fun. My favorite pair were flannel leopard print "footies", a gift from a friend my sophmore year in college. With painted whiskers and a sleek cap of pointed ears, I wore them to an evenings succession of Halloween parties in Georgetown, in Washington, DC and trick-or-treated with my handsome escort at a few homes in between stops. I wish I still had photos from that evening!
Enclosed is a recent photo of current favorites: pink, fluffy and appropriately for me, silly. My husband John took the photo of me recovering from a cardiac catheterization procedure, pajama clad in mid-afternoon, book in hand and our loving, sleek Russian Blue shelter adopted cat at my side. As you say, "it's good to read with friends." Hip hip hooray for pajamas! Linda ______________________________
Hi Suzanne,
Living in Florida as you do, many of the local retail stores sell PJ's that really don't look like pajamas. I found a set that looks like a cute capri set and is very soft and comfy. Too many times to count, I have had them on and someone stopped by or rang the doorbell, so I answered in my PJs and no one was the wiser! (A couple of my friends even asked where I got the cute capri set!)
There have been days in the summer when it is just too hot to venture out, so I stay in my PJ's and veg all day reading...what could be better! Thanks for the stories! Love them (mostly)!
Thanks to you, my daughter in Indiana who told me about this website, and I still can share this together even though we are 1000 miles apart. Keep the stories coming, Cindy

Hi Suzanne! It me, Valerie from Vegas! I just had to enter this PJ giveaway I come from a large family and we did not have much most of the time but every Christmas my mother and oldest sister would make sure we all got new pajamas that we wore all year, Christmas day was the only day we could wear them all day. As an adult I have bought myself lounge wear so after a day out in the world I looked forward to coming home to personal comfort and peace when I put on my adult pj's, ironically I don't sleep in my lounge wear I actually sleep in men's boxer briefs and the matching tank top!!! Take care Suzanne, it's so good to read with friends!!! Valerie

Suzanne,
Here's my vintage pajama party picture with my sister circa 1963. My wonderful quilted housecoat had yellow diamonds and my sister's had pink diamonds. What wonderful memories of our pajama party on Christmas morning! We loved our aluminum Christmas tree with its revolving colored light and all the sparkling Shiny Brite balls. Many years later we divided the balls between us, except for our favorite blue, pink and white frosted one that said "Silent Night". That special one travels back and forth each year. On even-numbered years the "Silent Night" ornament hangs on my sister's tree while on odd-numbered years our favorite hangs on my tree. That Christmas was the year of the Barbie. We spent countless hours playing with our Barbie and Ken dolls. Our mom made an entire wardrobe for Barbie and Ken for each of us to play with our dolls. We still have those dolls as well as the treasured handmade outfits. Thanks for the memories! Sheila
