An assortment of stuff: a very old Bufferin bottle that holds my first loose tooth. An old bottle of Farley's Silver On Tops—the decorations that we used to put on cookies. The entire bottle for only ten cents.

teaching

I don't really know what you call the wooden piece on my sunroom wall, so I'll describe it to you and maybe someone can finally tell me what the "official" name of it is. Obviously something that was used in school, a map of the world on one side and on the other side there’s a scroll of paper containing notations for shorthand, and other lessons to be learned. The framed page above it is something my son wrote for me in 1994 for my birthday. I was homeschooling him and it was poetry for his mother. It's quite extraordinary—in fact at first I thought my son copied it out of a book. Some day I'll do a column about it and share it with you.

meal-program

Years ago I ran a nonprofit meal program, Meals For Madison. Every Friday I served a free meal to people in the community, with the help of other business people. This was an "award" that one of our regular Friday customers made for me. "Unbelievable Best Restaurant". I framed it to keep it safe.
