My favorite sleepware was a 1969 peasant-style, polyster gown that I wore when I was in eighth grade. I like it so well that I wore it for a Halloween costume that year. I braided my hair, put on a headband, a feather necklace, and some moccasin house shoes and went as an Indian princess. Now, I wear a pair of my Dad's cast-off cotton pj's. They are worn thin, and keep me cool at night during my power surges. Those of you in your 50's will know what I mean!
______________________________ Suzanne, ![]() ______________________________ Dear Suzzane, I remember getting together often with my girlfriends when I was young for pajama parties. One particular pajama party stands out in my memory. This isn't so much about a pair of pajamas in particular as it is about what happened at a pajama party I had at my house. We lined up our sleeping bags in a row in the living room and of course talked late into the night. Finally we drifted off to sleep. In the morning, one of my friends remarked that she had a hard time sleeping because the grandfather clock which was in the room next door kept chiming and chiming and wouldn't stop. She said she counted and it chimed 132 times! Normally, the grandfather clock chimed once on the quarter hour, twice at half past, 3 times at quarter till and 4 times on the hour. I had become so accustomed to it that I rarely heard it anymore. I thought my friend must have been dreaming for surely I would have heard it if it basically started chiming non-stop. It turned out that there was a problem with the clock so we had it repaired but my friend wasn't too keen on staying over for awhile! Carrie ______________________________ Suzanne, There are so many good pj stories and I'm late sending this in but .....Mom made our pajamas, mostly from printed cotton feed sacks that were given to her by a local farmer. On my 9th birthday I had a party and I received a gift of baby doll pajamas in pink satin and lace. I loved them, they were so sophistacated . Then I remember many night gowns that were presents from my husband, but as I have gotten older the comfort of pajamas can't be beat. About 10 years ago, I started a tradition. My grandchildren live in 4 different states and I wanted to do something they would remember. I remember leaving our shoes outside our bedroom door on the eve of St. Nicholas Day (12/6) and finding a candy bar and orange or something similar; so I decided to make pajamas for the grandkids and mail them so they would receive them on 12/5 each year. Now I have 9 grandkids and the oldest is 21 and yougest is 3. They love having new pj's or gowns and many times they are Christmas prints so they can wear them throughout the holidays and to school for PJ day. Thanks for the memories ! Carol |
