“I Made A Cherry Pie”

“Shh! I’ve got a secret to tell you,” holding my finger up to my lips, I whispered to the kids, “None of the teachers helping in the class today have ever rolled a pie crust! So they’ll be learning along with you.”

My Never Fail Pie Crust recipe is very

forgiving, as long as you keep it cold, you can roll-it and re-roll it.  Good thing, too, because even though I told students (and teachers) to roll out from the middle of the dough, “Don’t push the rolling pin back and forth,” it’s one of the hardest lessons to learn, which means there were a lot of do-overs.

The kids cut out designs for the tops of their pies and everyone got to take home the pie they made in class. I made three big cherry pies ahead of time, with bird vents in the middle, so the kids could have a slice of cherry pie, with a scoop of vanilla ice cream on the side. Surprisingly the kids loved the pie crust more than the cherries.
